~ What would you do for FREE? ~

Dear Fellow Bloggers, this idea has been lingering in my mind for a while now. It will be a short post but hopefully will give you some food for thought and maybe you even realize something?

So, what we do for work/professionally is to make a living. Some of us like our jobs and some of us don’t. Most of us just go to work daily, accept that work is something we have to do to put food on the table and meet our basic everyday needs and to pay the bills.

But then, passion, I feel is a whole different thing. For some people the venn-diagram between passion and work intersect. This is very good! I am glad this is happening for you! But, for some, it doesn’t. People spend their entire working careers complaining about their jobs but still going to it daily because they KNOW this is something they NEED to do vs. something that they WANT to do.

I am not here to advocate changing your profession or to follow your heart. Realistically, I would urge people to follow their brain and logic when it comes to careers, profession and making a living. You go to work, exchange your time for money. Simple fact!

BUT.. to explore my thought fully I ask you – What do you do for FREE? What makes you feel alive? What motivates you to keep doing the things that you do without expecting anything in return? Now, pause and think about this for a minute or two. Thought of some things? — Ok, good!

THAT dear readers, is what I would call it your PASSION.

I wrote about my many different passions in this post Multipotentialite – Are you? I find that within the last two months I have been enjoying reading and writing and spending time on this WordPress community so much and I LOVE it! I aspire to be a good writer and keep getting better at it. This is my passion and I love the meaningful blog-versations (yep, made up that word!) I have with my fellow writers. At the same time I am Aware, that this is my Passion and my Career/Profession is different. Fortunate enough that I somewhat like my profession, but wanted to implore people to think about the difference between those two.

So, dear readers, WHAT WOULD YOU DO FOR FREE?

Would love to hear your thoughts & feedback in the comments below.

~~Stay Curious & Have a peaceful day!~~

P.S: Realized this morning, I had over 100 readers on my blog. Just wanted to say THANK YOU,  MERCI BEAUCOUP, DHANYABAD, SPASIBA, SUKRIYA, SUKRAN (those are the few I remember at the moment:D)  for engaging in my posts, following, liking, and providing your valuable feedback. Looking forward to reading more of your posts too! 🙂

  1. Funny, I was just thinking about this today while at work. I had an overwhelming feeling that I’m wasting my life working 40 hrs a week, doing something I don’t care about. Yes we have to work to survive but at the same time, life is short ya know?

    Liked by 5 people

    1. That is interesting! I guess, the way I would think about it is that you are exchanging your time for money so maybe it’s not a complete waste because you are survivin’ because of it? 😊 At the same time having a passion or multiple passions helps make you feel alive! I wanted to explore this thought where profession and passion doesn’t always coincide for some people!:)

        1. Yes, absolutely true! Sadly, that’s life though! .. Also, not sure you saw the quote in one of the comments below I cites”God, give me coffee to change the things I can & Wine to accept things I can’t!! ☕️ or 🍷those are our options 😂😀

  2. Completely agree about the majority of people just going with the flow because it’s what they have to do to put food on the table! I have felt this way quite often, this is one of the reasons I started my blog. For something different. I have always had a passion for writing and photography, now I have a place I can use both! Oh and gardening, but I cannot do that year round 😊. Love the read!

    1. I am so glad you started writing & it is the same reason I started too. I feel this is a platform where you find different people from different countries and cultures and expands your horizon!:) Yes, gardening is hard to do year round, you got your photography though;) Thank you for reading and engaging!☀️

What an interesting and noble passion. Would love to know what you do professionally? Although, don’t feel obliged to share! 😊

  3. Hey! I love those posts which encourage me to think)) my passion is writing (here) and also designing clothes) I love it soo much! Hopefully in the end I will work as a fashion designer or full-time blogger! Or maybe both!
As for the first part of your post, I have to say that you have to choose your profession with your heart, because that way you will be happy in the end of the day (and also in the beginning, when you have to wake up early)) otherwise, you won’t be happy.
But that’s just what I think)))
    Have the best day today)

    1. Hi! Thank you for your kind words. I appreciate it and it encourages me.
Glad this post was able to make you think through the difference & I commend you for trying to make your career & passion coincide!:)
Thank you for sharing your opinion which is different than mine and it’s completely ok and is the whole point of this post:) You bring up the point of happiness, which I feel is a choice. I feel people can chose to be happy or sad. I feel happiness is a state of mind. What do you think?
Also, reminds me of this quote I saw somewhere “God, please give me coffee to change the things I can and Wine to accept the things I can’t” 😊😊

      1. Happiness is a state of mind, off course! What else would it be?) and it doesn’t only depend on work or anything job related really) there are so many factors affecting that state)
Very good quote, by the way)

      2. Love that last quote, a slight change on the original but I like that version.. Perhaps as bloggers we could explore this term “happiness” I think it’s a phenominon or maybe I’m yet to explore and capture it for myself..

  4. I guess we are all into writing on the Good Ship WordPress. Writing rocks, who knew those thoughts lived in me. Plus if it stays weird I’ll always be doing it for free. Just me and my readers rolling along 🙂

  5. I love posts like this, the always uplift my mood. I saw a quote in a movie once that said “if you’re good at something don’t do it for free” (or something similar) I thought that was good advice-but really it was complete nonsense haha! I love all things crafty and slowly, starting to love writing, I lurve WordPress too btw! Great stuff 👍👍

    1. Hi!! Welcome and glad it uplifted your mood & so good to hear that!😊👍🏼 That quote sounds good in theory and somewhat true but for most people the reality is different. I appreciate your feedback. Hope to have more blog-versations with you! 😊

  6. I love how engaging this post was and it got me thinking about what my true passion is… I believe without a doubt that crafting is my true passion. I love paper crafting and up-cycling, and furniture recycling! I could scrapbook or journal all day and not be paid for it! Oh yeah — I already do 😂 However, it would be totally awesome if I had an opportunity to work for a scrapbook company one day being paid to do that stuff! 😊

    1. Crafting sounds so fun & it’s hands on. Recycling furniture sounds really interesting. I wonder if it is repurposing one piece of furniture or revamping it? I bought this scrapbook a year ago to document my trip w/ pictures and knick-knacks. I never got to it, maybe seeing some of your craft projects will inspire me someday!😊☀️

      Liked by 1 person

      1. A little bit a both. It really just depends on what the piece of furniture found is. How fun! I hope so, I’d love to inspire someone to get creative. They’re so great to flip back through years later and relive all the memories had.

Hi Stefanie! I felt the same thing before. Both from corporate and hospital where I used to worked with. The feeling of being burnout won’t just leave me. Guess what? I left my job and agreed to become a full time housewife. And I’ve never been so happy and contented. 😍

Sure, I do not make much 💰 like I did before, but things just fall into its proper places. 😊

  8. Lovely post! My passion is making music and even though it would be an absolute dream to earn money from it some day, my main goal is to write down my feelings and make it into art. I’m very new to blogging, but I’m hoping to make it my new passion!

  9. Congrats on your 100 readers! You are a great writer! Thanks for reading my blog! As for what I would do for free is take photos, I mean make photos! I always give out hugs which are ALWAYS free, but depending on the person are not always welcome!

  10. I love to write, and sometimes I get paid for doing it but most times I do it for free, because I love it. I don’t hate my job per se, but it’s vastly different from my writing, but seeing that it provides me with a stable income and I like my coworkers, I won’t complain.

    Liked by 2 people

    1. That’s interesting! It’s cool that you get paid to write. Also, it always makes a huge difference when you like you coworkers vs when you don’t so that’s great! How is your professional writing different than the writing that you like to do?

      1. It depends on the subject. Sometimes I sell short stories and sometimes they’re articles. But they’re always around subjects that I’m interested in. I find it very difficult to write about stuff I’m not passionate about.

  14. I’m one of those people who NEED to enjoy my daily work and seek that intellectual and engaging interactions with my coworkers and management. The older I am the more picky I get. I feel that as long as I have a choice (i.e. not unemployed), I’ll pursue that ideal work environment and switch career to find that fulfillment. My passion is vague – anything in science and technology (recently my “passion” has been in the ream of artificial intelligence and its intersection with consciousness and emotions). Honestly, I struggle with finding a passion that I will do for free. I want to get paid for pursuing a career that I enjoy.

    1. Thanks for the thoughtful response Carmen! It seems like you have been successful at doing that. Also, it seems like you are one of those rare people, your venn diagram between career and passion intersects which is amazing!:) Artificial Intelligence, discovered something new about you! Would love to hear more about that!

  15. This is an absolutely good question to ask to yourself. What would you do for free. I would like to make a mark in the history. If there is anything i could do to achieve that i would do that for free. This may seem like a far fetched dream. But thats how it is.
    Thanks for suggesting this post.
You have given the answer to what is my passion for the Sam very nicely 😊

  16. Great post!

The most important one for me is to spend time with people I like and like me back.
My workday including commute is from 5:30 till 5:30 in the evening. When I come home I make food, clean or go to the gym. Not much of the day is left to spend with even my boyfriend!

Other than that I would write! Keep my blog alive, write a book.
I love drawing too! I have been trying to promote my Doodles, but I just don’t have enough time to figure out the best way to promote my work!

And best of all, no more stress due to work or colleagues!

    Liked by 1 person

    1. Thank you for your thoughtful feedback Andrea! That is a really long commute and I agree that by the end of the work day we have spent all of our energy either at work or commuting.
I would love to check out some of your doodles. Where are they posted?
Similar to your drawing, I love making lip balms, scrubs and lotions, but after work, I usually end up doing the chores, get tired and same thing the next day.
It would be really great if we could make up our own schedules in which we have time for both our jobs and passions.

I noticed that I didn’t follow you at all, so I did that. Do you post how you make these products?

My doodles are usually incorporate in my posts. Mainly you will see the heart. He is named Skeptical Valentino. Mainly based on the fact that I have skeptical heart 😉

But other than that, I also put them on tshirts, hoodies and mugs: https://teespring.com/stores/emotion-doodles-store

        1. Yes, somehow this comment ended up in the spam folder…I love making my own lotions, lip balms and scrubs. I haven’t started a post on how I make those, but it is definitely on my list of things to do and have been asked by my fellow readers a few times.

I have been using the stuff I made, so when I make my next batch, will document and post it. I loved your doodles and emoticons:)

  17. Wow. This is something which I can relate a lot. My job is very demanding and satisfying also in terms of monetary or growth, however sometimes I do feel little exhausted and tired. I wonder what my passion is. Do whatever keeps the heart happy – this is what mom says always.

I realised expressing myself keeps me happy, connecting with various people an getting their perspective keeps me engaged. But this interospection..

  18. This sounds really cheesy. But personally, for me it’s LOVE. I am happiest when I spend time with those I love. I am fortunate enough that the recipients of my love, love me back. And that is enough for me :). Something else I have discovered recently is writing. I never knew I loved to write before starting this blog… But now I’m hooked! So.. I write for free 🙂

  19. This is such a good question. I would write and paint for free. I already write for free almost daily but rarely find the time to paint. I wish paying writing jobs weren’t so hard to come by or I’d make it my career! For now, I’ll keep going to work Monday through Friday and keeping my eyes open for budding opportunities. 😁 Thanks for the post!

    1. Painting! That’s interesting, do you post what you paint sometimes? I feel if you prioritize painting you would find sometime to do at least a little here and there?:)
Ya day jobs are important! My whole point of the post, passion and career sometimes doesn’t intersect for people and it is ok! & we don’t really have to hate or jobs!:)

      Liked by 1 person

      1. I occasionally do post them! Until I finish my degree in September I’ve had to put painting on a back burner but when I do get some free time I put a little together and post it. 🙂 It’s been a while since I finished a piece but I expect later this year I’ll have a lot more time to prioritize it like you said!

That’s very true! 🙂 I definitely don’t hate my job but I also wouldn’t mind if it was a little more of my passion. Baby steps though! Dreams can’t be reached overnight.

You kind of stomped me with this question. I have a lot of passions, and would be happy living any one of them. I don’t really have a “main” one. I like to keep things spontaneous and interesting, so being able to do something different every now and then would be best case scenario.

  21. For me it is writing and just being creative – the creative part comes in many forms. I love to draw / doodle, paint pottery, etc. I’ve started playing with Hand Lettering. I think because my actual profession is so logical and analytical, my creative side comes out in these other ways. Don’t get me wrong – I would love for someone to pay me for my writing and these other creative pursuits – but to date that has not happened. So I do these things for free because I love to do them and they help me relax and deal with anxiety. But there is a part of me that likes some of the analytical, logical stuff I do for pay too.

    1. Logical and analytical at work has to be balanced with some sort of creativity. I am glad you have found that with drawing, pottery etc. It is nice to have a variety though with the hobbies, don’t you think?
